Nothing beats a cool treat on a hot summer day. For Missourians who have their medical marijuana card, we’ve got a delicious treat you can make at home that will cool you down and provide you with the natural relief that cannabis provides.

Missourians are treating hundreds of medical conditions with medical marijuana. Cannabis is good for your overall wellbeing. Marijuana is also great for those who want to be more physically active, helping ease pain to get you moving during the warmer months of the year. And, if you can get that relief in the form of a tasty, cool treat to combat those high temperatures, even better!

Our cannabis popsicles are easy, and allow for you to select flavors based on your own preferences. You’ll want to select the fruit juices that you like the best, and maybe some additional ingredients to jazz them up. Then, when you add a simple THC-tincture, you’ll have a treat that’s sure to help you beat more than just the heat. Before we get into the details, let’s dive into the history of popsicles and where they came from in the first place.

The History of the Popsicle

The popsicle was invented by accident in 1905 by an eleven year-old boy named Frank Epperson. Frank lived in San Francisco, and one cold evening, he mixed some sugary soda powder with water and forgot about it, leaving it out overnight. Well, the next morning, Frank awoke and history was made.

The eleven year-old had left the wooden stirrer in his glass, and when he pulled it out, he was left with a delicious frozen treat. After enjoying it, he was struck with the idea of selling these treats, which were originally called “Epsicles,” a hybrid of the word “icicle” and Epperson’s last name. He began selling them at nearby Neptune Beach, and a business was born.

Nineteen years later, a thirty-year old Epperson finally patented his treat, which his children had encouraged him to rename the “Popsicle,” because that’s the name they had called it for years. After all, he was their “pops,” and it was his icicle. That made it “Pop’s cicle.”

Your Popsicle - Your Prerogative

When it comes to popsicles, your personal taste is what’s most important. You know what flavors you like. We’re going to give you the basics, but you should feel free to experiment with different juices and ingredients. The world is full of possibilities. Your only limit is your imagination.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

A Popsicle Mold

For your popsicles to form into a shape, you’ll need a popsicle mold. They are fairly easy to use. You just pour your popsicle mixture into the mold, pop the stick in, place the mixture into the freezer, and wait. You’ll be cooling down while enjoying an icy treat in no time.

If you don’t already have a popsicle mold, you can find several online, in price ranges from forty dollar stainless steel ones to inexpensive models under ten dollars. You can also get creative and use things like silicone muffin pans, dixie cups, or even an ice tray.

Popsicle Sticks

If you have a standard popsicle mold, it probably comes with its own sticks. But, if you are using muffin pans or an ice tray, you’ll need to provide your own handles. Luckily, they are easy to find on Amazon, like this pack of 200 sticks for just six dollars.

Fruit Juices

To make the best popsicles, you’re going to want to get fruity. You know your own taste, but we recommend combining some of your favorite fruit juices or blended fruit. If you need a little inspiration, here are some of our favorite combinations:

  • Mango-Lime (TIP: Add a pinch of cayenne and chili powder for some South of the Border heat!)

  • Strawberry-Lemon

  • POG - This is a Hawaiian combination of passionfruit, orange juice, and guava nectar

  • Apple (combine with honey and cinnamon for a special treat)

  • Orange-Ginger-Lemon

  • Strawberry and Blended Banana

Other Ingredients

You can add items such as coconut milk or blended avocado to give your popsicles a creamy texture. You can also add other ingredients like honey or spices. Get creative with your flavor combinations and become your own summertime popsicle chef.

The Most Important Ingredient - Your Favorite Marijuana Tincture

To take your popsicles to the next level, you’ll need to add our not-so-secret ingredient - THC. Marijuana is medicine, but there’s no rule that says you can’t have fun with how you enjoy your medical cannabis.

Here at Missouri Medical Marijuana card, we love sharing cannabis-infused food and drink ideas. Most of the time, if we’re cooking with cannabis, we use cannabutter to infuse our recipes. But, with our popsicles, we recommend using a THC-tincture.

If you are a do-it-yourself person, you may be interested in making your own. We’ve put together a starter guide for making your own THC extracts that you may want to check out. But, for an easier route, just pick-up an unflavored THC tincture at your nearest Missouri dispensary.

Add a few drops of your favorite tincture to your popsicle mixture and blend thoroughly. Once everything is combined, place the mixture into the popsicle mold, put the mold into the freezer, and wait for them to freeze. Then, you’ll be ready to cool off and enjoy the summer like never before.

Remember to Know Your Dose When it Comes to Medical Marijuana

Cannabis affects everyone differently, so you should select a dose that allows you get the most out of your medical marijuana experience. If you are a beginner when it comes to using tinctures, we recommend starting low and slow. We also encourage you to consider keeping a cannabis journal so you know how certain dosages are affecting you.

Pro Tip - Hot Water Is Your Friend

When it comes to removing your popsicles from your mold, save yourself the frustration of trying to pull them out of the mold right as you take them out of the freezer. Experienced popsicle makers will tell you that your homemade popsicles will slide right out if you just run some hot water and hold the popsicle underneath for a moment.
