New Study Says Adults Under 30 Who Use Marijuana Have Better Sex Lives

Can medical marijuana really improve your sex life? According to a new study, if you are under 30, cannabis could be the key to spicing things up in the bedroom. And by spicing things up, we mean improved sexual function. Why are you still reading this article? Shouldn’t you be racing to get your Missouri medical marijuana card?!

Medical Marijuana Users Having Better Orgasms and Overall Sexual Function

A study conducted in Spain collected data from 276 people between the ages of 18 and 30 years old, and discovered that young people who regularly use marijuana have more satisfying orgasms and overall sexual function than those who abstain or don’t consume cannabis regularly.

The study, which was published at the end of last month in the Journal Healthcare found that cannabis consumers experienced “increased desire, arousal, and orgasm.” When discussing the findings of the study, the research team at the University of Almeria, where it was conducted, concluded, “This improvement is usually associated with a reduction in anxiety and shame, which facilitates sexual relationships.”

In layman’s terms, medical marijuana can help reduce anxiety and increase focus, allowing you to focus on your partner, and fully immerse yourself in moments of intimacy. It also helps to reduce performance anxiety. If you are less stressed about how well your performance is, you are most likely to relax and be a better partner in the bedroom. If things are cooling off in the romance department, cannabis could be the spark your love life needs.

Cannabis Increases the Odds of Intimacy

A profile in Marijuana Moment detailed a study that suggests marijuana consumption increased the likelihood of an intimate moment between romantic partners. The odds increased when both partners consumed marijuana. To be clear, an “intimate moment” doesn’t always refer to sexual intercourse. It often does, but it can also include a loving interaction, like cuddling, or a deep, meaningful conversation.

We’ll Say It Again - Improved Orgasms - Especially for Women

Medical marijuana can be particularly effective for women when it comes to achieving orgasm. So, whether you are a woman looking for a more fulfilling experience, or are looking to help your partner feel more satisfied, it’s worth having a conversation about cannabis. A study published in the Journal for Sexual Medicine suggests marijuana use leads to more frequent and more satisfying orgasms.

Most of the study’s participants were women, and a majority of them reported that cannabis use prior to sex made them more than twice as likely to have an orgasm. If that’s not a ringing endorsement to get your medical card, I don’t know what is.

Communication Is Important With Sex and Cannabis

One of the most important parts of any healthy relationship is honest and open communication. Therefore, we highly recommend having a frank discussion with your partner about cannabis use when it comes to your sex life. This is important whether or not just one of you is getting high or if cannabis is something all partners are partaking in. It’s important to make sure you are clear about what you need.

Before making cannabis part of your intimate life, discuss how marijuana makes you feel, both before and during the act of sex. Marijuana affects everyone differently, therefore it’s a good idea to discuss boundaries beforehand and check in regularly throughout your intimate experience, just in case you or your partner's needs have changed.

Talking about your fantasies, being clear about your boundaries, and what you’d like to get out of your experience ahead of time will allow you to give your full attention to each other and focus on each other’s wants, needs, and desires.

It’s a good idea to have a plan in place in case someone’s needs change suddenly. In case one of you discovers they have gotten too high, have a plan in place so that you can take care of each other. Setting expectations ahead of time will allow you to make sure your partner is getting what they need. After all, that’s what true intimacy is all about.
