How to Avoid Smelling Like Marijuana: Missouri Marijuana Card's Guide to Staying Discreet

Avoid Smelling Like Marijuana

Even if you love cannabis, you may not be ready to shout it from the rooftops. Stay discreet with advice from Missouri Marijuana Card!

With more than 100 thousand registered medical marijuana patients and counting, Missouri is definitely riding the Green Wave this summer. However, despite the fact that public acceptance of cannabis use and medical marijuana are at an all-time high, many Missouri patients would prefer to keep their treatment plan between themselves and their doctor.

Even if you have a condition that qualifies for treatment with medical marijuana in MO, you might not want your parents, grandparents, cousins, and your boss to know that you use medical marijuana for your symptoms.

One of the most common concerns that people have when it comes to making sure their cannabis use is discreet is odor. You may love the smell, but cannabis smoke has a tendency to linger in the air and on your clothes.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Medical marijuana products found at Missouri dispensaries are inconspicuous, and some produce no odor at all. In addition to more advanced products on the market for people who are not interested in announcing their treatment choices to the world, air fresheners and odor neutralizers have come a long way in the last few years.

Keep reading to learn more about what you can do to make sure your medical marijuana treatment stays discreet, no matter what you use it for.

Cannabis Products That Don’t Smell Like Marijuana

One of the best ways to avoid smelling like marijuana, is to use products that don’t have a pungent odor. Fortunately, Missouri dispensaries have plenty of options. You don’t have to smell like a college party or a concert parking lot to get the natural relief you deserve.

Let’s take a look at some of the more discreet medical marijuana options in Missouri, how to use them, and what you can get at your local dispensary.

  • Edibles - Cannabis edibles in Missouri are pretty much confined to Wana, Robhots, and Cowboy Cannabis as of right now, but they all have delightful varieties. If you are new to marijuana edibles (and maybe a little intimidated), we suggest you check out this edibles guide for beginners.

Edibles You Can Find at Missouri Dispensaries as of May 2021:

  • Greenlight Bannister - The Greenlight Bannister location has a huge selection of edibles and beverages, and there is something for everyone unless you are on a sugar-restricted diet. All the standard products, plus several different kinds of Keef beverages as well.

  • JANE Dispensary Delmar - JANE offers Wana and Robhots in a variety of concentrations and flavors. They also carry Honeybee Gumdrops in artisanal flavors like blood orange strawberry, and mango chili.

  • Missouri Made Marijuana Joplin - Missouri Made Marijuana may only have the basics when it comes to cannabis edibles, but this dispensary is open 24/7. So when you need some midnight gummies, Missouri Made Marijuana is the place to shop!

  • Organic Remedies Cape Girardeau - When it comes to edibles selection, Organic Remedies is where it’s at. This dispensary carries almost 40 different types of edible products, including mints from ECO Therapy, gourmet chocolates from Kizmet, and even peanut butter cookies from Heartland!

  • Tinctures - Tinctures are convenient and easy to use, because they can be taken sublingually, swallowed, or added to your favorite food and beverages. Depending on the flavor, tinctures may leave a slight cannabis smell on your breath, but it’s nothing a swish of mouthwash or piece of gum won’t take care of. Tinctures are currently pretty difficult to find in Missouri. Organic Remedies carries a few, and Swade at The Grove also has them. This may change as more products hit the market this summer. If you are looking for a great DIY project, you could make your own tincture using the recipe found here.

Tinctures Available at Missouri Dispensaries as of May 2021:

  • Greenlight Bannister - Greenlight Bannister does not currently have tinctures. This may change in the future as more products hit Missouri shelves this summer.

  • JANE Dispensary Delmar - JANE Dispensary also does not currently have tinctures.

  • Missouri Made Marijuana Joplin - Missouri Made Marijuana does not currently carry tinctures.

  • Organic Remedies Cape Girardeau - At Organic Remedies, you can get a full-spectrum CBD tincture that is perfect for getting through your day with little to no impairment. The dispensary also carries a 1:1 THC:CBD tincture made by Amend.

Products With a Light Marijuana Odor

Concentrates made for vaping have a lighter odor than flower, and their scent is easier to manage. They don’t produce any vapors in between inhalations, and the vapor doesn't linger the way cannabis smoke does.

  • Vape Cartridges and Pens - When you use concentrates made for vaping, you can usually eliminate the odor by opening a window and getting some fresh air. You generally only need to take one or two hits in order to start feeling the effects, which cuts down on the amount of odor-producing vapors, and holding it in for longer will help cut down on the smell that escapes when you exhale. Right now, vape product availability is limited. However, the popularity of these products means that this will certainly change as processors are able to roll out more products.

Cover it Up, Clear the Air, Wash Your Face

If you just love the smell of cannabis but you still don’t want everyone to know you smoke marijuana every time you leave your house or someone comes to visit, then there are some other options to help reduce the odor.

Use Incense

The sweet, heavy smell of incense is about the only thing strong enough to cover the equally sweet, heavy smell of cannabis. But a stick of nag champa or patchouli-scented incense should help clear away the odor of your most recent blunt. Though it will not kill any suspicions that you are a hippy.

Febreze

A favorite among pet owners and cigarette smokers, Febreze won’t get rid of the marijuana smell in your house after lighting up, but it will help neutralize the odor and give you a base on which to layer other scents that will at the very least confuse your visitor’s olfactory senses.

Use an Air Filter

Using an air filter is another technique for lightening the smell of cannabis in the air. Check out this list of top air purifiers for cannabis, for the most effective products that will serve your purpose.

Make Your Own Sploof

Filling an empty toilet paper roll with dryer sheets and blowing your smoke into it is one of the most time-honored of college dorm techniques for masking the smell of marijuana. When you exhale your smoke, simply exhale into the toilet paper roll. Check out this guide on how to make a sploof if you’re having a hard time picturing it.

Take a Shower (Or at Least Wash Your Hands and Face)

Your hands, face, and hair are where the majority of cannabis odors linger. Wash your hands and face, and give your hair a good flip or tie it up, and you will feel brand new again!

Change Your Clothes

Once you take care of the smell on your hands, face, and hair, your clothes are pretty much all that’s left. Change into something more comfortable and no one will ever know you were just smoking a fat preroll of OG Kush.

Take a Deep Breath and Relax

Here’s the deal: You don’t want to go to work smelling like a blunt, because most businesses have rules against workplace impairment. This means that you should definitely be either entirely avoiding medical marijuana when you go to work, or at least keeping your use to lighter products that are mostly CBD.

When it comes to your free time, however, most people are not going to come up to you and start sniffing to see if you smell like weed. As long as you use more discreet products, wash your hands, brush your teeth, and give yourself a spritz of cologne or perfume, you should be able to leave your house after using medical marijuana worry-free.
