Member of the Busch Family Breaking into Marijuana

Busch beer getting into cannabis

The Busch family name has cemented a legacy in the beer industry that’s been around for nearly two centuries. Now, a Busch descendant is expanding the family reach to the world of cannabis. Adolphus Busch V, the great-great grandson of one of Anheuser-Busch’s co-founders, is the chairman and CEO of Teal Cannabis, which recently opened manufacturing operations in Missouri.

The Anheuser-Busch Empire

Anheuser-Busch’s brewing legacy began in the 1850s when Adolphus Busch immigrated to St. Louis from Germany and married Lilly Anheuser. He began working at her father, Eberhard’s brewery. It wasn’t long until the two teamed up to make beer history.

One of the world’s most recognizable names in beer, Anheuser-Busch currently brews over 40 varieties of beer and malt liquor, including the Budweiser, Busch, Michelob, and Natural domestic brands. They also distribute craft beers and imports including Goose Island, Hoegaarden, and Stella Artois. The company garnered a staggering 46.88 billion dollars in revenue in 2020.

The Green Sheep of the Family?

Adolphus Busch V is the son of the last Busch family member to have a controlling position in the Anheuser-Busch company. After graduating from Colorado State University, Adolphus failed to get hired in an entry-level position at his family’s company. After the rejection, which he called a “punch in the gut,” Adolphus pivoted; and he is attempting to carve out his own legacy in the cannabis industry.

Adolphus began his own company, which is not connected to Anheuser-Busch in any way. He started out in 2018 by selling CO2-extracted hash pens across Colorado. Just a few years later, he is the CEO of Teal Cannabis, which has recently expanded operations to Missouri.

Teal Cannabis

Teal Cannabis officially entered the St. Louis market in August, and their manufacturing facility is expected to produce a wide array of edibles, concentrates, vape cartridges and pre-packaged marijuana cigarettes. If Busch family history repeats itself, Teal Cannabis products will soon be available at dispensary locations throughout the state.

Cannabis and Beer?

This isn’t the first time Anheuser-Busch and cannabis have been linked together. In 2018, Anheuser-Busch began researching the possibilities of cannabis-infused beer. Earlier this year, SWADE dispensaries began selling THC-infused beer from O’Fallon breweries. Now that a Busch family member is in the medical marijuana business, it makes sense to speculate on the possibility of a partnership between the King of Beers and Teal Cannabis.
