How Do Unique Cannabis Strains Affect Marijuana Patients Differently?

In late 2021, the Department of Health reported that about 160,000 Missourians are state-registered medical marijuana patients. It has now been almost a year since that report, so we can assume that the number has grown significantly.

Although there are many registered cannabis patients in the state, some card-holders are unaware of important information regarding cannabis.

One of the best things about medical dispensaries in Missouri is the employees' knowledge and desire to help people become comfortable with their product choices.

In order to get the most out of your medicine, it’s important to educate yourself on the types and strains of marijuana. There are so many new and exciting products out there that you’ll want to try, so something as simple as knowing the strain you prefer could save you a lot of money and time.

What Is a Strain?

If you have ever been to a dispensary in Missouri, you probably have seen or heard the words “sativa”, “indica”, and “hybrid.”

All three strains are different and are the categories most people use to differentiate between types of cannabis.

Sometimes, you will hear the phrase “sativa dominant” or “indica dominant”. If something is indica dominant, the product is a hybrid of the two but it has more indica than sativa.

What’s the Difference?

Indica is believed to have a relaxing or calming effect, while sativa is said to energize users. A hybrid is basically a combination of the two strains. The best way to decide which strain works for you is to ask yourself what you would like to get out of your medicine.

Do you have trouble sleeping and eating? Try an indica strain. Indica also works well for general pain and nausea.

Feeling anxious? Sativa will do the trick! Sativa is known for its soothing effects for symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, and general mood.

Hybrid strains, depending on the potency and dominance, are great for headaches!

Sometimes, people want to purchase multiple strains for different reasons. Some people may want both, using indica before bed and sativa for a midday pick-me-up. This works especially well for people who vape their marijuana, because you can easily switch your cartridge if you’re in the mood for something different.

Popular Strains

Apart from sativa, indica, and hybrid, there are specific strains that can be considered subcategories. All of these fit into one of the three previously mentioned categories. Here are some of our favorites:

Girl Scout Cookies: This hybrid strain is reported to induce feelings of euphoria and happiness and relaxation, as well as soothe feelings of depression and anxiety.

Durban Poison: Made up of pure sativa, this strain will make you feel energized and creative. It’s best for chronic pain, fatigue, and migraines.

Granddaddy Purple: 70% indica and 30% sativa, GDP is said to induce a head rush followed by euphoria. It is also the top strain recommended for chronic pain, insomnia, and muscle spasms.

Sour Diesel: This one is 90% sativa and 10% indica, and it’s one of the best strains for a morning high. It gives users a burst of energy and creativity, and does not create couch lock, or laziness.

The Rest Is Up to You

Now that you have acquired this knowledge, take it with you to your next dispensary trip. Remember that dispensary employees are there to help you too. They have a lot of knowledge and experience and are great resources for any marijuana-related questions.

You can tell your local budtender your symptoms, and they will help you figure out the best strain for you. If you have questions about edibles, vapes, tinctures, or other cannabis products, they can assist with that as well.

Of course, in order to try some strains, you will need your Missouri Marijuana Card. If you don’t have it already, we can help with that.
